| 形態的特徴 | 1年生の草本植物．茎は4稜あって分岐し，高さ50〜60cm．葉は対性し，長い柄があり，円形〜広卵形で先がとがり，縁にはきょ歯がある．葉質は薄く柔らかで，紫色となって芳香がある．枝先には総状のの花穂を出し，淡村淡紫色の唇形花を多数密につける．花の下には小型の包葉があり，がくは5裂し，唇形で，筒部はには立った長い毛があり，上唇は3裂，下唇は2裂し，がくの筒部の内部にも白い粗毛がある．花冠は筒部が短く下唇は上唇よりやや長い．雄しべ4本のうち2本は長い．4個の分果は球形で永続性のがくの底にある， チリメンジソは「赤縮緬」の品種が知らている．葉は円形で裏表ともに赤紫色で，葉面は著しく波を打つ．葉縁は深く切れ込んで，5角形のきょ歯をなす． | ||||||
